Crafts Which Use Magnets

Crafts with magnets can decorate a refrigerator.

Crafts with magnets can decorate a refrigerator while holding important papers in a visible place, or they can be mounted onto the bumper of a car for public display. Magnet crafts are a fun project for children, and they can learn about the properties of metal and magnets at the same time.

Magnetic Picture Frames

Create photo frames and put magnets on the backs. This can be done by collecting fallen twigs from trees and gluing them together, then decorating them with colorful ribbons. Popsicle sticks work, too. The twigs give the frames a more rustic look, but popsicle sticks are easier for small children to handle.

Nature Magnets

Your child can collect items from the outdooors, such as acorns, pine cones, colorful leaves, twigs and other interesting natural objects. Have your child make an attractive "bouquet" with the items, glue them together, paint or decorate them if he desires and stick a magnet on the back for display on the refrigerator.

Holiday Magnets

For Thanksgiving, make a turkey magnet by drawing an outline of your hand onto construction paper, cutting it out and gluing on cut-out feathers in brown, orange, red, yellow and black. Finish with a small craft eye and a magnet on back. For Christmas, cut out a Christmas tree from green construction paper, decorate it with colored paper "ornaments," and stick a magnet on the back. For Hanukkah, create a menorah out of silver or blue construction paper with a magnet on the back.

Animal Magnets

Cut out cardboard in the shape of your chosen animal, then cover the shape with colored felt. For example, use dark brown felt for a cow. A pig calls for pink felt. Add felt eyes, a nose and a tongue, and stick a magnet onto its back.
