Treat your girl like a star on her 13th birthday with a fun theme party
A 13th birthday party is a big event, and before choosing a theme or planning any of the details, you should consult your almost-teen to find out what kind of party she has in mind. While most thirteen year old girls are quite capable of staying amused and entertained when left to their own devices, it can't hurt to come up with a few games to keep the party going.
Rock Star
Renting a karaoke machine is a guarantee of a good time for a thirteen year old's party. Complete the "rock star" theme with dimmed lights, a disco ball and a "stage" area for the girls to get up one by one and belt out their favorite tunes. For even more fun, pick out a few rock star props at your local party favor store, like giant sunglasses, fake plastic guitars and drums. Keep a lot of water, juice and soda on hand, as singing works up a thirst. For food, try cold-cut sandwiches cut into the shape of stars, along with chips and dip. The birthday cake can also have a rock star theme.
Day at the Spa
Even as young as thirteen, girls love the spa treatment. To help cover the costs, ask each guest to bring one spa item, like lotion, face scrub or nail polish. Give the girls free reign of the master bathroom to enjoy a day of beauty and makeovers. Classy Shirley Temple drinks served on ice, along with a selection of finger foods, are the perfect compliment to this party.
Hollywood Stars
Many girls love the opportunity to dress up. Make your birthday girl feel special with a "red carpet" rolled right up to her front door, and give each guest a feather boa to wear as they arrive. Make sure you have lots of disposable cameras on hand so the "paparazzi" can go wild taking pictures with the birthday star. For a game, try assigning each girl a famous celebrity and having them take turns allowing the other guests to interview them. The goal is for the other guests to guess her secret celebrity identity.
