How To Produce A Funny Wedding Dance

The first dance is a highlight of the wedding events.

A first wedding dance is traditionally a slow dance performed only by the bride and groom to a love song. To shake things up and choreograph a dance that showcases the love of the bride and groom and simultaneously entertains the wedding guests, swap out the traditional waltz with some interesting and humorous dance steps and lively music. By showing that the bride and groom share a sense of humor, the unconventional dance number also showcases their fun-loving nature that brought the couple together in the first place. Involve the entire bridal party in the dance number to make an even larger impression on the guests. The silly dance number will prove memorable for the bridal couple as well as the wedding guests.

Instructions

1. Start the dance by slow dancing to a typical, romantic wedding ballad to throw guests off and set up the surprise of the funny wedding dance.

2. Cut off the romantic ballad and play the first few notes of a dramatically different song, such as Michael Jackson's "Thriller," the Village People's "YMCA" or simply a fast paced, modern club or party song.

3. Act surprised and bewildered at the sudden change of song so guests will think the DJ made a mistake with the music. Simultaneously on cue, strike a pose to the new song. This alerts the guests that they are about to be entertained. For example, hit the classic John Travolta disco pose or a Madonna "Vogue" pose.

4. Break into the choreography, making sure the bride and groom are in unison with each other. The dance should be funny and not sloppy. By dancing in unison, the dance appears choreographed and not strewn together. Work in some notorious dance moves such as the "running man," some retro moves like the "Hammer dance" or classic steps like "the twist."

5. Choreograph a portion of the dance where the rest of the bridal party joins the bride and groom and finishes the dance number in unison all together. The oncoming dancers can even wear some costume pieces that fit the era, like Hammer pants or simply fun accessories like sunglasses and feather boas.

6. Conclude the dance by having the bride and groom strike a pose with the bridal party positioned around them so the newlyweds are highlighted in the center and forefront. Choose a romantic pose to tie in the traditional romance of the first wedding dance. For example, the groom can dip the bride in a romantic kiss.
