Art Suggestions For Children About Boas

Create boa art using real images and drawings.

One of the largest snakes on the planet, boa constrictors can reach up to 13 feet in length and weigh between 60 and 100 lbs. These non-poisonous reptiles are found in tropical areas of Central and South America and range in colors including tan, red, green and yellow with distinctive patterns of jagged lines and diamond shapes. Teach children about boa constrictors through assorted art projects, including dioramas and photo art.

Photo Art

Children can be provided with photos of real boa constrictors to create collages. Possible collage ideas include piecing the head, middle and tail of various boas together to create "new boas" in diverse sizes, colors or images. Other photo art ideas include pasting photos of boas in pictures of settings they would not dwell, such as a city street, house, beach or mountainous area.

Picture Art

Children can use images of real boas as inspiration for boa constrictor pictures. Help children cut out their boa drawings for use as bookmarks or to contribute to a larger class art project, such as animal habitat murals. Boa drawings may also be cut and folded to create greeting cards or pasted to the front of plain greeting cards. Stand-alone drawings of boas are another option and can be framed as gifts for parents and friends.

Dioramas

Children can create dioramas featuring boas using drawings, photo images or small sculpture. Ideas include providing children with items they can paint or otherwise decorate as boas, including old pens, bendable straws, garden hose, fabric strips and coated craft wire. Such items can be placed, alongside photos and pictures, within a 3D diorama, which can feature small stones, twigs, leaves and dirt.

Additional Ideas

Additional ideas include painting boa images on assorted items like paper bag book covers, skateboards and plain boxes or containers. Help children attach iron-on images of boas to tote bags and t shirts, or help them brainstorm on cartoon and comic strip ideas featuring boas. Other ideas include painting old tables and chairs with reptile images including boas or have one continuous boa image wrap around a chair or table.
