Mardi Gras Mask
Mardi Gras is a celebration that encourages people to let loose before Lent. Mardi Gras is a party with brightly colored parades, beads flying through the air and of course, beautiful masks. It is said that masks are worn during Mardi Gras to hide the identity of a person while they behave raucously. To create your very own Mardi Gras mask, you only need a few supplies and a generous supply of imagination.
Feathered Mask
The colors of Mardi Gras are green, purple and gold, which would look fabulous on a feathered mask. To begin, purchase a plain mask from a craft store; most masks are about $1. While at the craft store, pick up a bag of feathers. Sort through the feathers for the green, purple and gold colors to use on the mask. Feathers can be easily glued onto the mask in the pattern of your choice. Experiment with different heights of the feathers and directions they are facing. It might be fun to glue the feathers so that they stick out to the side, expanding the size of your mask.
Glitter Mask
Glitter makes anything seem more fun, especially during Mardi Gras. To begin this craft, paint a plain mask in the color of your choice. Choosing a darker color will allow the glitter to stand out more. Once the paint is dry, use glue to "draw" designs on the mask. Ideas include curls, or just framing the eyes and border of the mask. While the glue is still wet, sprinkle glitter all over the mask. Make sure that newspaper is underneath the mask to collect the extra glitter; it can be saved and put back into the glitter container. If you want your mask to be extra glittery, cover the entire mask with a thin layer of glue and then sprinkle glitter over the entire mask.
Sequins Mask
Sequins are great tools to make something look fancy without requiring a long time. First, paint the mask the Mardi Gras color of your choice. When the mask is dry, glue small sequins onto it. Glue the sequins around the eyes, the border or in designs of your choice. When using sequins, remember that less is more.
