Formal Softball bat Mitzvah Theme Ideas

A bat mitzvah celebrates a girl turning 13 and coming of age in the Jewish community.

A bat mitzvah is a celebration in the Jewish community for a girl turning 13. This special birthday is a coming-of-age party celebrating a young girl's transition to womanhood within the community. The party can be personalized by letting the birthday girl select a theme for her party and building the decorations around that theme.

Princess Theme

Throw your daughter a party worthy of royalty with a princess-themed bat mitzvah. Decorate using clear twinkle lights, lots of pastel colored streamers and balloons, a castle background and silver paper moons and stars for an enchanted look. She can wear a princess-style dress and a tiara, and the guests can receive tiaras for favors. Ask guests to dress up as their favorite fictional fairy princesses. Vases of beautiful flowers and candles for use as table centerpieces will add an elegant touch.

Red Carpet Theme

Treat your guests like celebrities with a red-carpet-themed bat mitzvah. Ask guests to dress up in their finest formal wear, and lay out a red carpet you either rented or made from red, shiny gift wrap. Decorate your venue with disco balls, twinkle lights, movie posters and anything film related. Paper movie reels or clapboards, shiny gold stars and gold streamers and balloons will complete the look.

Masquerade Ball

Host a lavish masquerade ball for your bat mitzvah. Masquerade balls are reminiscent of New Orleans, so decorate with Mardi Gras colors such as purple, yellow and green. Have masks for all of the guests to wear, and encourage over-the-top outfits complete with beads and feather boas. Decorate with lots of paper masks, feathers, streamers and balloons, crowns and twinkle lights. Place gold tablecloths on the tables and use floating candles and beads as centerpieces. A colorful balloon arch using the Mardi Gras colors can be a striking visual element for the party.

Winter Wonderland

A winter wonderland party, with lots of white, silver and blue decorations, will call to mind cooler winter weather, no matter what time of year the birthday falls. Hang snowflakes and icicle lights, blue and silver balloons, streamers and white candles. Allow guests to take home snowflake necklaces or shaped frames as favors. Fake snow scattered on the floor along with white tree branches in pots add an outdoors atmosphere to the party decor. Keep the atmosphere cozy with candlelight and twinkle lights.
