Toilet Tissue Parrot Craft

Cover your work area with newspaper for a quick and easy cleanup.

Toilet paper rolls are a great resource for making crafts, and more than likely, you can gather a few around your house. Instead of tossing them in the trash, reuse your toilet paper rolls and add some new toilet paper to make these creative parrot crafts. Teach children to value reusing and recycling materials and let them scrounge around the house for leftover supplies to use. Each of these parrot designs allows for much personal creative input and individual taste, making each toilet paper parrot a unique creation.

Toilet Paper Roll Parrot

For a basic parrot craft, begin by painting your empty toilet paper roll green. Paint a medium-size polystyrene foam ball green, and glue it to one of the openings of the toilet paper roll. This will be the parrot's head. Use craft glue to attach two googly eyes to the head. Fashion a beak using either felt or construction paper and glue the beak onto the head. Again, use either felt or construction paper to make two feet, and glue these to the bottom of the toilet paper roll. Use glue to attach feathers or strips of toilet paper acting as feathers to decorate around the toilet paper roll, as you desire.

Paper Plate Toilet Paper Parrot

Another possible craft project involves a paper plate as well as toilet paper. Paint a paper plate red using any type of red paint and paintbrush. Let the paint dry. Cut a triangular yellow beak out of yellow felt, and attach it to the paper plate using craft glue. Cut out a few feathers from green construction paper to attach around your plate, again using craft glue. Take a small section of toilet paper and wad it up into a tiny ball. Repeat this until you have about 40 tiny balls, 20 for each parrot eye. Paint 10 of the balls black. These will be the centers of the two eyes. Glue five in a circle for one iris, and the other five for the other iris. Glue the rest of the white toilet paper wads around the black iris centers to complete the eyes and your parrot.

Parrot Perch Craft

This craft uses a toilet paper roll to create a swinging perch for your parrot. Take two strands of pipe cleaner and twist the two ends together, forming an extra long piece of pipe cleaner. Round the pipe cleaner and attach one with craft glue to each end of a toilet paper roll. Glue together two large red pompoms for the parrot body. Attach two googly eyes to the parrot head. Cut a piece of orange pipe cleaner and glue it to the head for the beak. Cut two orange pipe cleaner pieces for the feet. Glue two feathers on each side of the body for the wings. Glue your parrot to its perch. Use a suction cup to attach your perch swing to a window, or use a piece of string to tie to your swing and hang it from the ceiling.

Loopy Parrot

This parrot craft requires several toilet paper rolls. Cut four 1-inch-wide strips of cardboard from your toilet paper rolls. Cut one 3-inch strip, one 4-inch strip, one 5-inch strip and one 6-inch strip. Paint each strip in the colors of your choice, such as red, orange, yellow or green. Roll each strip into a circle, overlapping the ends by about 1/4 inch, then glue the ends together. Begin with the largest circle, then glue the next largest inside that one, and continue until you have all four circles glued together. Cut another 3-inch strip of cardboard and roll and glue it into a circle. Attach it to the body of the parrot with glue. This is the parrot head. Use a marker to draw two black eyes. Glue a few feathers to the back of the body to complete your parrot.
