Suggestions For Hollywood Adornments

You can add to the glamour of any party by incorporating Hollywood-themed decorations. There is nothing more glamorous than Tinseltown, so let your creativity match the greatest entertainers of film and television by incorporating a bit of Hollywood into your next bash.

Outside

You can use Hollywood concepts for any outdoor event, be it a barbecue or a patio party, or maybe you've decided to take movie night outside. One idea is to make your own Hollywood sign. People travel from all over the world to get a glimpse of this iconic symbol of movie-making. You can use the actual word, "Hollywood," or create your own take on it: "Partywood," "Emilywood," "Margaritawood." Use block lettering and stagger it somewhere in the bushes or on a roof to give it the proper effect.

Add a red-carpet entrance, and make sure to have your video camera on a tripod to get "red-carpet interviews." Lots of white lights will give the outdoors a special sparkle.

Inside

Many party stores offer ready-made backdrops that you can place on walls. You might choose palm tress with spotlights or limousines letting people out at the red carpet; either would make a good backdrop for an indoor Hollywood theme.

Add movie clapboards to the decor. (These are black rectangular chalkboards with movable arms that "clap" down as someone says "'Movie of the Year,' Scene 12, Take 321.") You can buy one and use it to get the attention of your guests before the toast or you can make cardboard cutouts that you use around the house.

Offer guests Derby hats and fun sunglasses to wear, perhaps feather boas for the ladies to get everyone in the mood to be a star.

Spectator Parties

If you want to make your party less of a participant theme and more of a spectator extravaganza, get your favorite movie posters and place them on the walls. You can rent a popcorn machine and fill personalized popcorn bags for guests.

If the party is centered around watching an awards show, such as the Academy Awards, Emmy Awards or Screen Actors Guild Awards, you can send guests tickets instead of invitations, reserving their seat at the event.
