Making Christmas crafts with your kids is a wonderful way to make memories of the holidays and to create mementos that you both will cherish. It's so easy to make a bead and bell garland, a jingle bell ornament or a Christmas mobile that crafting with your kids may become a family tradition.
Bead and Bell Garland
Enjoy a very simple Christmas craft project with your kids as they create garland with jingle bells and beads. Fishing line, satin cording or stretchy beading cord will work with any kind of 4 to 8mm beads that the kids can handle. Pony beads are colorful and inexpensive and work best for younger kids; crystal beads cost more, but make a beautiful garland with sparkles. Look in the beading aisle of your local craft store for a selection of natural stone beads, Swarovski crystals as well as novelty beads, feathers and hand made art glass beads. Older kids will appreciate design options for their garland, so offer a variety of beads and an array of colored jingle bells. Carefully supervise young children with small objects like jingle bells and beads.
Bell Ornament
Create a bell shaped ornament covered with jingle bells to hang on the tree or in a window or doorway. You can use felt as the background, cutting it in the shape of a bell. Felt is a great material to use when you're crafting with kids as it cuts easily and retains its shape. Cover the face of the felt bell with jingle bells and glitter to hang on the Christmas tree or cover both sides to hang it in a window or a doorway. Have the kids make different size bells and join them together to create a garland. They could also cover the bells in one color of glitter, let it dry and then write their names on the front with a different color of glitter.
Christmas Mobile
Make a Christmas mobile with a craft ring and some fishing line. Kids can add anything lightweight to their mobile from seasonal trinkets you can find at the dollar store to handmade ornaments like glittery Christmas trees or candy canes. Hang strands of beads and jingle bells on the mobile for sound and added color. You can even string lights around the craft ring for added impact, once you hang the mobile. Your kids will love having their own special Christmas room decoration. Turn your mobile into a wind chime to decorate outside your home at Christmas. Plastic or glass beads, trinkets and ornaments along with metal jingle bells combine to make a weather resistant wind chime.
