Easy New Year'S Crafts

Make it a happy new year with easy craft projects.

If your New Year’s resolution is to become more creative and artistic, you can start before the year even changes with a couple of easy New Year’s crafts. Projects revolving around the New Year don’t have to be as dangerous as fireworks or as serious as making resolutions. You’ll find craft inspiration all around your home.

Custom Champagne Glasses

People have been drinking champagne to celebrate special occasions and holidays since the 17th Century. While the bubbly itself is often the focus of a New Year’s party, the glasses it goes into are often overlooked. With a few craft supplies and just a couple of minutes’ time, you can make an easy craft.

Find bulk glasses online, at a warehouse store or a mass merchandiser. Plastic champagne glasses work well for projects and are inexpensive. Browse a craft store for items like feathers, glitter, puffy paints, stick-on gems and lace ribbon. These can quickly and easily turn a plain champagne glass into something fit for a New Year's party. Regular white school glue works well to adhere your decorations onto your glasses.

Tiaras

While you can buy tiaras at any party supply shop, you can also make your own as a quick craft idea. You’ll need a couple of pipe cleaners (the soft, fuzzy, colored covered wires), cardboard, scissors, glue and glitter. To make your project easier, use a word processing program to type up "Happy New Year" and print it out, Use the words as a stencil to cut around on the cardboard. The end product is the headpiece.

Once you have the letters cut out, decorate the headpiece with glitter. Punch small holes in the very bottom of the headpiece, then weave a pipe cleaner through the holes so the cardboard stands up straight. Curl pipe cleaners together until you have a long enough headband to fit around your head and behind your ears.

Noisemakers

As the fireworks begin to pop in the sky, usher in the new year with a loud, noisy celebration. There’s no need to buy noisemakers from the store--you can craft them at home with supplies from around your house. Gather vessels such as empty water bottles, plastic cups and washed-out salad dressing containers. These will serve as the holders. Then look around for marbles, hard candies or small rocks. These will be placed into the holders later.

The holders themselves can be personalized for the occasion. Use puffy paint or markers and sticker labels to customize the vessels with "Janofsky Party, December 31, 2010" or "Happy New Year from the Hermans!" Anything from stickers to ribbons is fair game for dressing up the outside of the noisemakers. Once they’re ready, add in the noisy bits and get shaking.
