Steps To Make A Resume In Adobe Illustrator

How to Make a Resume in Adobe Photoshop


Resumes are not only a profile of your work experience, but also a way to show potential employers your personality and style. Word-only resumes are boring, and don't stand out from the crowd. Creating a resume in Photoshop has its risks, because it's out of the ordinary, but that is also it's advantage. Instead of providing an employer with an often-forgettable piece of paper, why not create a memorable impression? After all, a resume is a personal advertisement, so it's one of the only tools you may have to leave a lasting impression. This is especially true in artistic industries where a more stylized resume is not only appreciated, but is essential for standing out in the crowd.


Instructions


1. Open up Adobe Photoshop. Create a new file. Change the dimensions to "A4" size, which is 210 by 297 mm. Use the drop-down menu to select "A4" from the preset options in Photoshop.


2. Turn on the Ruler by pressing "Ctrl" and "R" on your keyboard, or by going to "View" from the menu bar and selecting "Rulers."


3. Turn on the Grid. Go to "View" from the menu bar and select "Grid." You will need to toggle the Grid on and off during the course of the resume creation to help you see the big picture.


4. Create a new layer. Select the "Layer" icon from the layer box.


5. Take the "Rectangle Marquee Tool" from the tool bar, or press "M" on your keyboard. Change the Feather to "10 px." Draw a header at the top of the page.


6. Click on the "Color" box on the tool bar, and change the color from black and white to blue and green. The colors used on this tutorial are 56B5DC and 8BC02F. You can type those numbers in the color picker box.


7. Select the "Gradient Tool" from the tool bar, or press "G" on your keyboard. Take the cursor and draw a line guide inside the marquee. The layout of your gradient colors depends on the length of your lines. A longer line creates smoother transition between the colors.


8. Right-click on the layer in the layer box and select "Blending Options." Select "Drop Shadow" and press "OK" to exit.


9. Create a new layer and select the "Text Tool" from the tool bar, or press "T" on your keyboard. Type in your name in a large and easy to read font. Use the grid to line up the text. Take the "Move" tool from the tool bar and move the text as desired. Photoshop will help you by allowing the text to snap into place along the grids. For the address text, use a small size and a different font.


10. Create another layer. Use the "Rectangle Marquee" tool and create several other headings. Follow the same blending options and text in the above steps. Make the headings and text smaller.


11. Populate the resume with more text. Add the crucial information that goes underneath the headers, such as employment history, education and special skills. Use the Myriad Condensed font for this text.


12. Save as a PDF file once you are pleased with the results. Go to "File" and select "Save as..." and then choose "Photoshop PDF." PDF is one of the most popular files used for resumes, partially because the resume cannot be mistakenly altered.
