How You Can Remove Marker From Lower Bed comforters

Soft and stuffed full of duck or goose feathers, down comforters retain heat far better than their more inexpensive fiber-fill counterparts. But unlike fiber-fill comforters, you can't ball up your down comforter and throw it in the wash with the rest of your linens every time your toddler "decorates" it with a marker. Improperly washing and drying your down comforter can strip your comforter's feathery innards of their fluff-causing oils. Spot-treat any marker stains or marks you find on your down comforter, and turn to machine-washing as a last resort.

Instructions

1. Pinch and pull the marker-spotted section of comforter fabric up and away from the down inside the comforter.

2. Spray your marker removal cleaner first around the inch surrounding the marked spot, and then spray it directly onto the spot. Saturate the area with cleanser, and allow the marker spot to soak for 60 seconds.

3. Dampen your sponge in cool water and dab at the marked area to lift off most of the cleanser. Rinse your sponge as necessary.

4. Blot at the area with your dry white towel. Use only a clean white rag since a colored rag could transfer its dyes onto your comforter and compound your problem. Blot at the cleanser-soaked stain to remove both the cleanser and the ink.

5. Dip the tip of your sponge into rubbing alcohol if the stain persists. Dab at the stain with alcohol, and then use a clean part of your sponge to lift off the rubbing alcohol and the remaining stain from your down comforter's surface. If the alcohol can't remove the stain, use ammonia for your next round of dabbing, blotting and rinsing, but allow the ammonia to sit for half an hour before rinsing it.

6. Load some detergent into your eye dropper and squeeze the detergent onto the affected area; you can skip this if you've already removed the marker stain. Rub at the marked area with the toothbrush, and then load the comforter into a front-loading clothes washer; a top-loading washer could ruin your down comforter with its agitator. Add enough detergent for a normal cycle, set the machine to warm and wash the comforter. When the washer finishes, start another cycle, this one without detergent. The second cycle is necessary to remove all traces of soap.

7. Remove the comforter and gently wring it out to remove excess water. Hang your down comforter out to dry in the sunlight.
