Christmas Designing With Wild birds & Beads

Birds and beads are symbols of the holiday season.

Decorating your home for the Christmas season is a festive way to show your holiday spirit. For a new twist on the classic staples of the holiday, try decorating with elements featuring birds and beads. The beads can be incorporated into any number of decorative elements, from garlands to wreaths and even ornaments. Birds, especially white doves that symbolize peace, will add a nature-inspired touch on your Christmas decorations.

Instructions

For the Tree

1. Arrange bird ornaments on the branches of the holiday tree. Just like birds perched on branches of outdoor trees, decorative bird ornaments will add a natural quality to the tree's aesthetic. Consider also making a nest from raffia for your bird to sit in.

2. Glue a string of beads to the beak of the dove. Attach the opposite end of the string to a second bird and allow the string of beads to hang slack in the middle to frame the tree from branch to branch. This display also can be used in lieu of a tree topper and hung above the tree. For added decoration, hang a banner of the beads that reads "Merry Christmas."

3. Create a tree topper for the focal point of your tree. Roll a piece of cardstock into a cone form and tape the seams together. Hot glue a decorative bird to the top of the cone and allow the glue to set. Wrap the base of the cone with decorative beads in your chosen color and glue in place.

As Garland

4. Use a string of colorful beads as the garland for your tree or a Christmas centerpiece. If your bead string is not long enough to wrap around your tree, you can attach several lengths of beads end to end by twisting the string together or gluing.

5. Hang beads as garland vertically down the length of your tree. Instead of the classic horizontal wrap, you can create height to your tree by pinning one end of the beaded string to the top branch of the tree and letting the garland drape downward. Place a bird tree topper at the top of the tree to accent the beads.

6. Add color and interest to a classic holiday decoration by wrapping beads around a Christmas wreath. Accent the wreath by gluing or pinning small decorative birds throughout. Hang the wreath on an interior or exterior door.
