If you have a last minute Halloween party coming up and you don't have a costume prepared, think about using an old prom dress you already have in your closet. Just a few tricks can turn a plain dress into creative costumes like a beauty queen or princess. Some accessories can help complete the look.
Bride
A prom dress of any type can be turned into a bridal gown quickly, particularly if it's white. If it's not white, you can still convert the prom gown into a wedding dress, but it will take a little longer. Just let the dress soak in bleach for a few hours, then add some white tulle to your hair and carry some flowers.
Movie Star
You can turn a prom gown into a glamorous movie star costume with just a few accessories. Wear the gown with items like over sized sunglasses and elbow length gloves. If you have one, wear a feather boa around your neck or a long, elegant scarf.
Miss America
You can turn a prom dress into a Miss America or beauty queen costume by just making a sash to go with it. Tie a piece of thin white fabric, from a sheet or pillow case, across your chest. Write a beauty queen title, like "Miss USA 2011," across the fabric in marker.
Princess
For a princess costume, just wear your prom dress and add a few accessories. You can find plastic tiaras and sceptres at dollar stores or other discount shops. Or, make your own from painted cardboard or paper.
