Crafts To Create With Doves

Use doves in craft projects and decorations for different occasions.

If you want to add a wild, natural look to your decorations, purchase some fake doves and use them in your crafts. You can use them as the peace symbol, for weddings, or for holidays like Christmas or Easter. You can even get the kids in on the crafting with some easy dove crafts.

Dove Wreath

You can incorporate doves into your homemade wreath designs or add them to store bought wreaths for a personal touch. Add fake doves to a Christmas wreath by dabbing two or three beads of hot glue to the bottom of the dove and pressing it against the front of the wreath. Glue layers of poinsettia or pine branches under the dove to make sure it can securely hold the weight of the dove. You can also add a dove or two to a non-Christmas wreath to give it a more natural look.

Paper Dove

Children can make a paper dove and hang it as a decoration or use it as a name tag. Draw and cut out the basic shape of the side view of a bird and two wings on a piece of card stock to make a stencil. Let the child trace the shapes of the dove and its wings on a piece of clean white paper (not notebook paper) and cut them out. Instruct the child to write their name on one side of the dove glue one wing on each side of the dove's back.

Dove Easter Egg

Blow the white and yolk out of a large white egg and glue two wiggly eyes (also know as "googly eyes") to the smaller end with craft glue, or paint the eyes on. Run a string through the holes on either end that you used when blowing the egg. Glue an orange or yellow triangular beak made from construction paper to the middle of the smaller end and glue white feathers to the sides of the egg and the back with craft glue. Hang the Easter egg doves around the house as decorations.

Center Pieces

Centerpieces that incorporate doves into their designs are appropriate for religious occasions and weddings. Cut a circle out of a piece of heavy poster board and glue a votive or taper candle holder in the center with epoxy or hot glue. Arrange one or two doves in the positions you want them and glue them to the poster board base. After you have the bigger pieces in place, like the fake doves, you can arrange and glue small pieces like fake sprigs of flowers and leaves.
