How You Can Decorate Your Mantel For Carnival Season

Arrange a variety of masks on your mantel for Mardi Gras.

Decorate your fireplace mantel for Mardi Gras season using purple, green and gold. The three colors represent justice, faith and power in the Mardri Gras celebration, which is also known as "Fat Tuesday" and falls 47 days before Easter. Your decorations can be simple and disposable or elegant and used for years to come. Mix and match a variety of decorations to find the look that suits your style.

Instructions

1. Create a swag that hangs above the mantel or from the mantel above the fireplace. Use gold, purple and green beads, strips of silk, feather boas or foil tinsel.

2. Display Mardi Gras masks along the mantel. Use small pieces of tape or thumbtacks to hold them in place, or situate the masks between jars or vases for support.

3. Fill large glass apothecary jars with purple, green and gold confetti, sand, beads or pebbles. Place the jars strategically across the mantel with beads, feathers or material on the bottom of the jars.

4. Place purple and green candles in gold candelabras, or arrange three pillar candles in different sizes in all three colors. Wrap beads or thin strips of silk around the base of the candles for decoration.

5. Arrange purple, gold and green silk flowers or feathers in vases. Place the vases between other decorations or as the only decor on the mantel.
