Black boots are a signature piece for a Sally Jupiter costume.
The sexy crimefighter Sally Jupiter is an action heroine from the Watchmen comic series by Alan Moore. Comic book fans and fans of the movie by the same name will instantly recognize this character's signature pin-up girl style. Sally Jupiter was a burlesque dance and a founding member of the Minutemen, a group of crime fighters.
Instructions
1. Put on a black corset, or strapless black bathing suit for the base of Sally Jupiter's costume. Look for a full coverage corset since it will be the main part of the costume; no pants are required.
2. Make a collar from a piece of black fabric. Cut a two-inch wide piece long enough to circle your neck. Attach hook and eye closures to hold it in place around your neck.
3. Create the gold covering with 2 yards of shiny gold fabric; a gold or yellow satin, or gold or yellow stretchy lightweight silk-like material. Attach one corner of the fabric to the bottom center of the black collar. Let the rest of the material fall from this point in a triangle shape. Wrap the bottom of the triangle shape around your body to create the dress. Pin in place at the point where the fabric meets on the back of your waist.
4. Cut the bottom of the fabric so that the hem hits approximately at the top of your thighs.
5. Cinch the waist with a wide black belt. Look for a leather belt with corset-like lacing, or use a wide stretchy black belt. Adjust the gold fabric so that it pleats evenly around the hips. Make more pleats in the center back of the costume to give it a bustle appearance.
6. Slip on thigh high stockings; black or fishnet. Add a pair of tall black boots. Wear one long black glove on the right arm, and place a black cuff on the left wrist.
7. Create victory rolls in your hair with pink foam rollers and bobby pins Roll the front section of your hair around a roller and then pin in place, continue rolling and pinning the hair along the sides of the face. Use a generous amount of hair spray to hold in place and finish with temporary red hair spray. Alternately, purchase a red wig to wear as Sally Jupiter.
