Plan a Disco Party for Kids
Pull out those bell bottoms and relive your childhood by planning a disco party for kids. Save some money by making your own invitations and decorations. Try and borrow items like a karaoke machine and a disco ball. Shop thrift stores and vintage shops for deals on 1970s-era clothing.
Instructions
1. Create bell bottom invitations out of an old pair of jeans. Glue the bell bottoms to card stock and decorate with glitter and jewels. Alternately, find old 8-track tapes, prepare sticky labels with the party information and mail or hand deliver the invites to your guests. You can also attach party information to plush smiley-face toys or small bean bags. Encourage guests to dress in festive clothing like bell bottoms, platform shoes and polyester dresses.
2. Plan a groovy menu. Prepare fondue to serve with veggies, bread and apples. Consider offering a chocolate fondue rather than a traditional dessert. For snacks, serve Gobstoppers, Bugles, Nilla Wafers, juice, sports drinks and sodas.
3. Decorate for the disco party. Hang a disco ball over the dance floor. Hang beaded curtains over the doorway. Accessorize the room with lava lamps and black lights. Play retro movies or television shows like "Star Wars" and "The Brady Bunch".
4. Provide entertainment. Prepare a costume box for guests with clothing accessories to wear. Play music from the 1970s. Hold dance contests or teach guests some 1970s dance moves. Consider renting a karaoke machine for the evening or hosting a lip sync contest. Prepare a list of phrases, names, titles and songs from the 1970s for a game of charades. Arrange a Twister tournament. Prepare a disco dancer piñata with candy and goodies like stickers, whistles and glow sticks.
5. Create a backdrop for a photo session. Use a disco ball, stars cut from aluminum foil and groovy dancers with face holes. Encourage guests to place their head in the holes and take Polaroid pictures.
6. Give party favors. Arrange an area for guests to decorate magnetic photo frames with glitter, jewels and gems. Consider giving out favors that guests can wear such as leis, disco vests, whistles or glow jewelry. Consider smiley-face items such as bubbles, key chains or stickers.
