Homemade Cowboy Party Adornments

Homemade Cowboy Party Decorations

A cowboy-themed party creates a rustic western atmosphere for a picnic, barbecue or buffet. Invite guests to dress according to the theme and choose country music that sets the scene. Kids and adults can enjoy a cowboy party when the decorations, food and games enhance the theme and bring guests into the spirit of the event.

Table Dressing

Dress tables for a cowboy party using simple, even unfinished, tablecloths. Cut a large square to cover a round table. Hem all four sides or leave unfinished and fray the edges for a more rustic look. Layer a simple bandana at the center of the table as a topper.

Use cut fresh daisies, zinnias or brown-eyed Susans in a glass canning jar with Queen Anne's lace as filler to create a centerpiece straight off a western saloon's table or bar. As an alternative, try placing bales of hay as benches around a bonfire instead of setting tables. Encourage storytelling and campfire songs with a casual outdoor setting. Ice down beers or soft drinks in tin buckets.

Room Decor

Dress the room like a western saloon with feather boas scattered and draped around the fixtures. Give the boas away to female guests as party favors. Set potted or inflatable cactus plants around the party area and give them as party favors after the party to male guests.

Welcome guests to the party with a cowboy-themed welcome sign that immediately sets the tone. Paint a welcome message by hand on a sawed wood plank. Allow the paint to drip to add to the rustic look. For a saloon look, purchase a large rectangle mirror. Tape down stencil letters in the message you want and spray on frost spray. Remove the stencil and see a faux etched glass message. Purchase a wooden frame for the etched glass sign and gild the frame using gold leaf applied delicately with a paintbrush.

For a child's party, decoupage pictures cut from scrapbook papers or magazines of cowboy hats, horses, rope and cacti onto a purchased plywood or thrift store table. Use the table for gifts or prizes and give the table to the child for use in the bedroom or playroom.
