Things To Put on To Carnival

Mardi Gras beads

If you're heading to New Orleans for Mardi Gras this year, you will be joining the thousands who will line the hundreds of parade routes. You'll want to dress appropriately for Mardi Gras to make sure you can keep partying comfortably. Outdoor events are fun, but there's always some planning involved with the quickly changing spring weather.

Hats

Wear a hat when you attend a Mardi Gras parade or event. A baseball cap or panama hat is just fine. Your hat will do three things. First it will protect you from the elements, like bright sunshine or the sudden spring shower. Second it will make you look festive and ready to party. It will help get you in the Mardi Gras spirit. Third it will get you noticed. Parade riders look for the serious parade revelers to throw their goodies at. Personalize your hat by adding some boa feathers to the rim and attaching them with a hot glue gun. Add some beads to your hat by dangling them horizontally from the edges and using a glue gun to attach them.

Layers

Layering on your clothing will help prepare you for a day out. You never know what temperature it will be or how cold or warm it could get. Start by wearing your favorite comfortable T-shirt over or under a long-sleeve shirt. Wear some jeans and, most importantly, comfortable shoes. Don't even think about wearing tight shoes or high heels along a parade route. You'll be standing for a while and may have to move fast if the crowd gets unruly. Also, wear a lightweight wind breaker. If it gets too warm, tie it by the sleeves around your waist. Dressing in layers will help you control your temperature.

Accessories

Don't forget the accessories. Umbrellas are handy tools to have at a Mardi Gras parade. Not only do they shield you from heavy southern spring rains, they can also be used to hold your Mardi Gras goodies. When you've stuffed your pockets to the brim, use your umbrella to hold your moon pies. Wear your Mardi Gras beads as you catch them. You'll look festive and fun loving while wearing your multicolored Mardi Gras necklaces. You may also want to wear a Mardi Gras mask. A simple mask that covers your eyes will help you blend in with the mystical event.
