Headband Crafts

Make fun headband crafts with kids.

Make your own headbands, or decorate existing ones for festive headband crafts. Headbands can be made for just about any occasion or holiday, and kids will like wearing the head decorations no matter what time of the year it is. These simple crafts are good options for kids of all ages.

Decorated Headbands

All you need is a plastic headband, some colorful embroidery floss or ribbon, a glue gun and some decorations to make a pretty headband for a girl. Glue one end of the ribbon or floss on the headband's underside and wind it around the headband, securing it with glue on the opposite underside. These headbands can be decorated with anything from buttons to beads or artificial flowers. Choose your favorite colors to make your headbands, and mix and match colors too. Make a headband as a gift, or use this craft for a birthday party, slumber party or Girl Scout troop.

Antenna

Pretend to be a bug by making some bug antenna. Turn a plain, plastic headband into any type of antenna your child would like. All you need to do is glue fuzzy pom poms on the ends of two pipe cleaners, and wrap each pipe cleaner on opposite sides of the headband to stand straight up. They can look like bee or butterfly antenna depending on the colors you use. This can be a great last minute addition to a Halloween costume or a simple craft for small kids to do.

Native American Headband

When you are dressing like a Native American for a school play on Thanksgiving or just for a day of dress up at home, you need a feathered headband to look the part. Make one very simply by using construction paper that will form the headband and tape or glue feathers, real ones or construction paper ones, on the band. Creative kids may want to add beads, sequins, stones or glitter to their headbands. Make extra tall and colorful feathers to be the chief.

Holiday Headband

Use construction paper as the base for a holiday themed headband. Draw a symbol of the holiday, such as clovers for St. Patrick's Day or hearts for Valentine's Day, and attach each one to a pipe cleaner. Tape the pipe cleaners to the construction paper band and you have a holiday headband. Embellish the decorations and headband with glitter or sequins. This can be adapted for any occasion and for any age. Use precut foam shapes for small children.
