Chistmas decor can be creative and fun.
Use unusual items to create fun Christmas decor. Get creative with candy and food and to make wreaths, ornaments and table centerpiece displays that look good enough to eat. Turn basic craft items into festive holiday decorations with a little imagination. Allow kids to join in the fun by making their own colorful ornaments or wreaths. Homemade Christmas decor also makes excellent personalized holiday gifts.
Colorful Decor
Decorate with nontraditional Christmas colors for a fun look. Instead of red and green decor, use shades of pink, green and blue and touches of gold and silver to enhance your home. Wrap a shiny blue garland around a tree, and use purple, pink and blue lights. Add a festive touch by hanging metallic-colored ornaments. Celebrate winter citrus season by decorating with vibrant yellow and orange colors. Set out gold or silver bowls of lemons and oranges on your coffee table or fireplace mantel. Hang yellow and orange stockings. Tone down the look with touches of white or ecru, and decorate with muted, rather than bright, citrus shades.
Decorate with Candy
Use holiday candy as colorful decor so you aren't tempted to eat it all. Place a meaningful or vintage Christmas card in a plain wooden frame, then glue pieces of red ribbon candy around the edges of the frame. Glue white candy-covered chocolate nonpareils on a foam cone to resemble a snowy tree, then place the cone, tip up, in a red or green bowl or urn. Kids will love making Christmas tree ornaments out of peppermint candies and gum drops. For a sweet look, make a wreath using green leaf-shaped gumdrops, and accent the wreath with red gumdrops to resemble berries.
Pink Christmas Tree
Create a fun retro holiday look using a pink Christmas tree. Decorate the tree with a glamorous "Old Hollywood" style. Wrap a black feather boa around the tree as a garland. Tie black and white polka-dot ribbons to the ends of a few branches. Hang gold or silver ball-shaped ornaments. Use opulent vintage ornaments for an authentic look.
Cranberry Crafts
Use cranberries to add a fresh, festive flair to your home. Spear the cranberries with toothpicks, then use them to turn a medium-sized Styrofoam ball into a vibrant red topiary. Fill a clear glass bowl with water, white floating candles and a handful of cranberries, which will rise to the top. Place pine branches around the bowl to create a holiday-inspired display.
