Friendship Crafts

The love of swapping gifts with your friends begins at an early age.

Making crafts and sharing them with pals has long been a method of solidifying the bond that exists between friends, especially between young girls. As a parent, it's important to instill a lifelong love of friends and to promote the value of female camaraderie from an early age. One way to develop these connections is to help with friendship crafts at a young age and to continue to encourage elementary and middle school girls to exchange gifts, as well.

Jewelry

When you think of friendship crafts, friendship bracelets are often the first thing that come to mind. Although bracelets are a good choice, there are other alternatives to the traditional friendship bracelet. Make a necklace in much the same way as you would a bracelet. Choose either traditional embroidery floss or get even more creative by using colorful glass or plastic beads. Opt for beads that reflect your friend's personality or designate an activity that she participates in, such as sports, choir or art.

Picture Frames

The digital revolution has made it easier for young girls to take numerous photos of themselves and of their friends. Instead of leaving those images stuck on the computer's hard drive or on a memory card, print off a special picture of you and your friends. Purchase inexpensive frames and decorate them yourself. Paint the frame in your friend's favorite colors and decorate them with embellishments such as glitter, beads or stickers. Include the word "friends" or "best friends" somewhere on the frame. Choose to do this activity alone or in conjunction with your pals for a fun friendship craft swap.

Apparel

Gather your gal pals and make a day of decorating the blank canvas of a plain cotton T-shirt. Choose methods such as tie-dye, fabric paint or baubles and beads to add pizazz to your own one-of-a-kind creation. Purchase inexpensive flip-flops and dress them up using strips of ribbon or fabric. Raid your closed for an old tank top and turn it into an adorable summer beach bag for your friend. Opt to do these crafts with you girlfriends for a bonding experience. Employ a swap philosophy where attendees make something for someone else in the group.

Bedroom Decor

Present your pal with a homemade keepsake to display in her bedroom. Purchase a paper mache box in any shape and cover it with either fabric or wrapping paper. Decorate the box with scrapbook embellishments such as flowers, stickers or gemstones. For extra personalization, add her initials to the base or lid of the box. If your friend has a desk in her room, whip up some jazzy desk accessories to add a touch of whimsy to her space. Turn a simple pencil holder or paper clip holder into a work of art by using a feather boa. Cut it in smaller lengths and glue around the edge.
