Suggestions For A Threeyear Old'S Party

Use a three-year-old's favorite character as the theme for the party.

A child is only three once, so throw a party worth remembering. The party may be for a birthday or other monument event in the child's life. It is convenient to have a theme or reason for the party. This will help with deciding on the food, games and decorations for the party. Be sure to set the party at a time that does not interfere with the child's nap time to avoid unnecessary crying or tantrums.

Favorite Character

Whether the character is from a movie, television show or book, this is one of the most popular categories for a themed toddler's party. Some examples are Buzz or Woody from the movie "Toy Story," Mickey Mouse from Disney, and almost anyone from Dr. Seuss. You can buy character-themed plates, napkins, banners, cups and streamers at many large stores.

Sports

Decorate the house and cake with sports themes, such as basketball, football, soccer ball and baseball. If the party is for a birthday, this allows the gifts to be geared towards sports. You could make the cake in the shape of one the sports balls. The kids can have relay races or balloon-toss contests as entertainment.

Animals

If animals is all the three year old talks about, plan for a zoo, farm or circus themed party. The guests at the party can play pin the tail on the donkey or pin the trunk on the elephant. The children can create animal masks. Decorations can be themed around the types of animals the child likes. The cake can be a plain sheet size cake with small animals on top of it.

Tiaras or Capes

If the party is for a girl, a classic princess theme fills the room with pink streamers, balloons, plates, napkins and cups. Each child can receive a tiara to wear throughout the event. The cake can be in the shape of a tiara with little finger-food sandwiches. Plan to have time for the girls to dress up and wear feather boas.

If the party is for boys, get plenty of material to make superhero capes for each boy coming to the event. Each boy can make his own badge saying what superhero he is during the party. The decorations can be the colors of the host three-year-old's favorite superhero. The cake can have a multitude of small superhero figurines on it.
