Great Suggestions For Slumber Parties For Teens

Teen girls can be silly and social at a slumber party.

Slumber parties are usually a casual weekend event where teenage girls stay at a friend's house overnight to gossip, giggle and barely sleep. This social activity is a rite of passage for girls of all ages, and you can help make the evening even greater by planning a themed slumber party sure to be talked about at school the following Monday.

Makeover

Most teenage girls love fashion and experimenting with new hair styles and makeup techniques. Plan a slumber party based around a makeover theme. Set up the party area to look like a salon, with a table for nails, an area for hairdressing in front of a vanity mirror and a room divider for girls to change outfits behind. Have each girl perform an aspect of the makeover process, such as painting nails, styling hair, applying makeup or selecting outfits. Each girl will receive a head-to-toe makeover, and, when all the work is complete, the girls can march down a designated runway area to model their new styles. Provide a couple cameras with quick-developing film to snap photos as they strike silly and glamorous poses.

Old Hollywood

Romance and drama are intriguing concepts to teen girls, and these fantasies are showcased well in old movies. Rent classic romances, such as "Gone with the Wind," "Casablanca" and "An Affair to Remember." Don't forget to provide plenty of tissues and popcorn. Decorate the party area with film reels, cozy pink and silver pillows, and Hollywood starlet accessories, like feather boas and costume jewelery. Print portions of movie scripts so the girls can act out their own versions of the most dramatic moments on film.

Superstar

The rags to riches stories of reality talent show winners is appealing to many age groups, and teen girls relish the thought of having the same lucky break. Plan a superstar slumber party where the girls can act out their fantasy of getting that big break. Rent a karaoke machine stocked with a combination of current pop hits, as well as old standards, and hold a reverse singing competition, where the worst singer receives the prize. Be sure to set up a judge's panel to provide feedback. A freeze dance competition will allow the girls to get silly while moving to music. Have one person, such as a parent, control the stereo. Girls can dance while the music plays, but must freeze when the music stops and cannot talk, giggle or move until the music starts again.
