Natural materials are ideal for creating an inexpensive Thanksgiving centerpiece.
Thanksgiving centerpieces usually feature natural materials and follow harvest themes, which means they're easy to create on a tight budget. Fresh, dried, painted or carved, there is an assortment of cheap and/or free materials for the holiday decoration. Pine cones, pumpkins, twigs, pebbles and leaves are all useful for creating an attractive centerpiece.
Autumn Leaf
Create a tall arrangement of autumn leaf-covered branches as an easy, elegant and inexpensive Thanksgiving centerpiece. An old-fashioned ceramic pitcher filled with a spray-shaped bouquet, consisting of thin tree branches with fall leaf clusters, sets a simple country style. A dark-gold satin ribbon tied into a bow around the pitcher adds a splash of color to complement the rich leaf hues.
Candlelight Pebbles
Use a few decorative accents to turn boring pebbles and white pillar candles into a low-cost Thanksgiving centerpiece. A piece of tan raffia wraps around the middle of each candle and ties in a knot to create a rustic feel. A small sprig of sage and rosemary sticks out from each knot for an earthy accent. Tiny colorful pebbles in and around the clustered candle centerpiece provide a hint of outdoor style. Additional decorations can include beads or cranberries scattered among the pebbles for a hint of color.
Modern Cranberry
Combine fresh cranberries and unshelled nuts to create a low-budget Thanksgiving centerpiece. The design can consist of any large and clear glass vase filled with alternating layers of cranberries and pecans. The top layer uses cranberries and ends about 2-inches below the vase rim to keep the look bold and sharp.
Painted Pumpkin
Turn a plain pumpkin into a decorative vase for a Thanksgiving centerpiece that looks fancy, but costs little to create. The vase consists of a pumpkin with the top cut off and the insides removed. Hand-painted sunflowers and a glossy varnish cover the outside of the pumpkin for a decorative accent. An asymmetrical bouquet, consisting of dried sunflowers, dried lavender and dried wheat, provides a warm feel to the overall centerpiece.
Pinecone Turkey
Assemble and paint a pine cone turkey for a budget Thanksgiving centerpiece with rustic style. The seated turkey figure consists of a large stone body, large pine cone tail feathers, half-pine cone wings, a long pine cone neck and a short pine cone head. The hot-glue secured pieces can include a variety of subtle painted details, such as black dot eyes, feather-patterned brown body and white-flecked tail feathers.
Pumpkin Line
Create a centerpiece that forms a thin line down the center of a square or rectangular table for an artistic and low-cost decoration. The line consists of seven, evenly spaced, pale-yellow mini-pumpkins with a gold satin ribbon weaving between each one. Tiny pine cones sit randomly around and between the pumpkins to provide a hint of contrasting texture. A light sprinkle of gold glitter across the entire design provides a sparkly touch.
