Focal point Suggestions For The Month Of The month of january

Combine pillar candles and silver Christmas ornaments for a silvery winter centerpiece.

January celebrations need a little extra oomph to compete with the holiday bustle through Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve. Cheery centerpieces at any event can help party guests forget the dull, frigid winter weather awaiting outside. Pull themes for a January event from the month's birthstone, from mother nature's winter season or from sacred or secular holidays held during the month.

New Year Centerpiece

New Year's Day may only occur once each January; however, the beginning of a new year can be celebrated at events held any time during the month. For a New Year celebration centerpiece, mark the passage of time with a large, old-fashioned hourglass as the core of the centerpiece. Place taper candles of varying heights nearby to reflect off the glass. Place all atop a circular mirror and sprinkle fine, iridescent sand across it to symbolize the sands of time. With a fingertip, spell out the date of the event, the party motto or just the year.

Snow White Centerpiece

Whether you're throwing a secular or sacred event, white on white or white and gold centerpieces work well for the winter month of January. Place a pure white flower arrangement atop a pedestal that allows guests to see each other. Using slender, white ribbons of varying lengths, suspend crystals from the base of the pedestal. Around the centerpiece base, arrange white candles of all shapes and heights, including taper, pillar and votive, to illuminate the dangling crystals.

In the church year, the colors of Christmas and Epiphany, which falls on January 6, are white and gold. For a simple Epiphany centerpiece, create a low flower arrangement of white flowers and adorn with gold ribbons. Insert three simple, gold crowns into each centerpiece to represent the three wise men, who are often the subject of Epiphany sermons.

Wishing Tree Centerpiece

Create a miniature wishing tree for an interactive centerpiece with a classy look that kids will enjoy. Plant a leafless tree branch, and spray painted silver in a glass bowl filled with white and blue marbles. Light the centerpiece by twining white and blue miniature Christmas lights along the branches, painting out the wires with silver so they don't stand out. Adorn the branches with small blue and white ornaments.

Set several white feather quills around the centerpiece, and place small ornaments containing miniature scrolls at each place setting. Encourage guests to write their hopes for the new year on the scrolls, and hang them on the wishing tree.
