Costumes and props can add whimsy to the photo booth activity.
In addition to using photography for documenting your wedding ceremony and reception, it is possible to use photography as an activity to entertain the wedding guests. Photo booth machines produce vintage-style photo strips that the guests can take home as wedding favors. Such machines are available to rent or it is possible to create your own photo booth variation.
Homemade Photo Booth
If you cannot afford to rent a portable photo booth machine or simply wish to add more character to the photo activity, create your own photo booth by hanging a creative backdrop and using your own digital or Polaroid camera. Ask a friend to be in charge of taking the photographs of wedding guests in front of the decorative backdrop. Create the backdrop out of large sheets of poster paper or a bed sheet. Paint the backdrop so it looks like the people are standing in front of a skyline, a tropical beach, a starry sky or any other setting you can think of.
Costumes and Props
Provide costumes and props for the wedding guests to incorporate into their photo booth photos. For example, provide feather boas, thick-rimmed glasses, masks, hats, clip-on ties, headbands and any other items that you think will add character to the photographs. If your wedding has a theme, choose costumes and props that fit with the theme. For example if your wedding has a Hawaiian theme, provide leis and pineapples for the wedding guests to pose with.
Photo Guestbook
Instruct the wedding guests to place one of their photo booth photo strips in the wedding guestbook next to their personal message. Provide photo glue or a guestbook that has slots for photographs. By incorporating the photos into the wedding guestbook, you will be able to look back on the event years after the wedding and remember the people who celebrated the occasion with you. In the years to come, you can show the guestbook to your children and point out how young their aunts and uncles and other older relatives once were.
Photo Contest
Announce to the wedding guests that you are hosting a photo contest for the night's best photo taken in the photo booth. Instruct the guests to give their submissions to a designated person who will then ask the bride and groom to choose a winner. Provide the winner with a prize, such as a restaurant gift certificate or a box of the bride and groom's favorite type of chocolates. Alternately, choose more of a gag prize such as goofy, over-sized sunglasses.
