Kinds Of Flower Vases

Types of Flower Vases

Flower vases can be round, square, rectangular, cylindrical, bowl-shaped, with or without handles, clear or painted, tall or short. As varied as their appearance can be, they have something in common: the materials from which they are made.

Glass

Glass vases often come with delivered flowers and are available in department stores. Crystal, also called lead crystal, is a heavy, expensive glass cut with facets to reflect light.

Clay

Many vases are made of ceramic, china, porcelain and stoneware. When kiln-dried and glazed, they are suitable for holding liquids.

Metal

Though metal vases can be used to hold flowers, it is best that the flowers be dried or that a glass container to hold the flowers be inserted into the metal container to prevent rust.

Wood

Some vases are made of beautifully carved wood with a plastic or glass insert.

Synthetic

Synthetic materials like plastic or polymers that are designed to look like ceramic or stone can hold a bouquet but may need to be weighted down with stones or marbles.
