Fishermans fishnet makes an authentic backdrop for an art display.
There are a few different versions of fishnet. Use old fishnet stockings to create wearable art or an artistic jewelry holder. Discarded fishnets can be cut to make a collaged fishing scene. Actual fishing net can also be applied to a wall as a part of an art display featuring papier mache fish.
Fishnet Jewelry Holder
Cover an empty glass bottle with fishnet. Slip a leg of a discarded fishnet stocking over a wine bottle or other interestingly shaped bottle. Use thin ribbon to secure the fishnet on the bottle following the shape of the glass. Weave the ribbon through the upper portion and tie a bow. Slip earrings into the fishnet to hold and display.
Wearable Fishnet Art
Cut the legs off a pair of fishnet stockings. Slip onto your arm to size. Cut an inch above your elbow. Take off and fold the top edge over a piece of matching elastic, that has been cut to fit. Cut the foot portion off the stocking. Sew a thin piece of elastic at the end. The stocking should cover most of the fingers. Poke a hole for your thumb and reinforce with matching thread. Add lace embellishment to the top. Weave ribbon into the fishnet and add small silk flowers if desired. Any color of fishnet stocking works for these. Look for knee high versions in discount stores.
Fishnet Wall Art
Purchase a piece of actual fish net from a fishing store or use a net from a party store. Paint a large piece of artist board, sturdy canvas or piece of prepared hardwood with wide strokes of different shades of blue paint to create a water-scene background. Drape the fish net on top of this scene. Use a staple gun to secure along the sides. Hang painted papier mache fish and shells in the net.
Another option is to use a piece of fishnet stocking and place a colorful fish that have been embellished with feather boas and big red lips. Cut open a pair of fishnet stockings at the seam. Place over a canvas that has been painted a bright blue. Set the fancy papier mache fish in the net.
