Parting Gifts For Any 16th Birthday

Typical childhood goody bags don't cut it with many teenagers. Try getting one nicer take-away gift instead.

Sixteenth birthdays are a milestone for teenagers. Teens can finally get their driver's license and have freedom from the watchful eyes of Mom and Dad. Sixteenth birthday parties can be fun, but also bittersweet for the teenagers in attendance who have not yet turned 16. Parting gifts are one way to thank attendees for joining in the celebration and to remind them of the fun they had at your party long after your guests return home.

Key Rings

Teenagers are usually friends with their peers, meaning most of your guests are probably about to be or just turned 16. Find cool key chains for your guests, or better yet, have some personalized. Have them personalized with your name and birth date or party theme. If you already know your guest list ahead of time, you can also find or have key chains made with each guest's name on it, making the take-away gift more personalized.

Personalized Sweets

To play off the "sweet" part of a sweet 16 theme party, customize candies or cupcakes for your guests to take home with them. You can make cupcakes with your monogram on them, print customized stickers to put on mint- or candy-filled tins or even have brand name candies made with your initials. A popular brand of candy-coated chocolates makes customizable treats perfect for packaging as party favors.

Photo Frames

Set up a photo booth at your party and take fun pictures with your friends. Have props like goofy sunglasses, feather boas, hats and even a sign that says "Happy Birthday, (your name)!" Give your guests picture frames decorated to go with the theme of your party. Inexpensive wooden frames of different shapes and sizes can be found at local craft shops and can be painted and decorated without specialty paints or glues. If you have a photo printer, you can print the photos before the party is over and put one of you and your friends in each frame. Otherwise, email them their best photo with you or send it in a thank-you note after the party.

Hands-Free Headset

Your friends' parents will thank you when their children are driving safely with a hands-free headset courtesy of your 16th birthday party. Look for reasonably priced headphones with built-in microphones your friends can use while driving. Most phones come with a standard 1/16-inch headset jack, so this is probably the safest size to buy. Adapters are available to those friends of yours with unusually sized jacks. Before buying headsets, make sure talking on a cell phone with a hands-free device while driving is legal in your state.
