Decorative Works of art Of Wild birds

The peacock is a popular choice for decorative bird paintings.

Wildlife artists may paint birds in their natural habitat. Decorative bird paintings, however, focus on the bird as a design image, and often separate the bird from its habitat, opting to accent its particular visual details as a fanciful image.

The Flamingo

The bright pink and unusual shape of the flamingo is visually stunning.

The Art Deco movement (circa 1909-1939) created a multitude of decorative bird paintings. Many artists chose tropical and extravagantly beautiful birds to represent a highly stylized, sleek, modern look, rich with color and clearly defined geometric design. These artists leaned heavily on the decadent lifestyles represented in Hollywood imagery. The pink flamingo and peacock were often featured in paintings during this time.

Stencil Paintings

Perhaps the most decorative format for creating a bird painting is through the use of a stencil. A stencil focuses entirely on the design element of an object, and when taped to a surface and filled in, the artist is free to design, much like a child would do with a coloring book. At the turn of the twentieth century, many American folk artists were inspired to paint bird images using stencils. They often covered the surface with a repetitive bird image, embellishing them with different patterns. The stencil paintings could be found on walls, pieces of salvaged wood, and various pieces of furniture.

Asian Art

Decorative art often doubles as a utilitarian item, like this Asian bird-themed fan.

Decorative bird motif scrolls and folding screens have a rich tradition in Asian art. While reproductions are readily available today on multiple online shopping sources, the original pieces were delicately painted on the finest silk and were commissioned by revered artists specifically for members of the royal dynasty or other aristocrats. The birds were chosen for their spiritual meaning, treated with great respect and rendered in meticulous detail.

Murals

A decorative outdoor mural of beautiful birds is sure to please passers-by.

A mural allows an artist a wide, expansive space to create, whether in a private interior or an outdoor public space. Public wall murals act as a bridge for the community, bringing people and culture together. In a civic center in Huntington Beach, Calif., there is an enormous mural created by assembling a large number of hand painted tiles of bird images. The mural features 140 species of birds that are indigenous to the area. This may well be the most educational and expansive piece of decorative bird painting to be found.
