Wooden Poultry Crafts

Wooden turkey crafts keep the kids entertained during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Wooden turkey crafts are low-cost and simple options for kids' holiday activities. They require little-to-no cutting, so are relatively safe for young kids. Adult supervision is required for children under the age of 6 as these crafts have small parts. Smaller children may be tempted to put them in their mouths. These crafts only take a few minutes to put together.

Wooden Turkey Puppet

The kids can make their own puppets for Thanksgiving. Gather small wooden spoons, circles about the size of a quarter, wooden star shapes, and lots of Popsicle sticks. Paint the spoon and circle brown. Paint the stars yellow and paint the Popsicle sticks the colors of turkey feathers. Glue the circle and stars to the front of the spoon. Glue the "feathers" to the back of the spoon. Glue a couple of buttons or googly eyes to the circle to complete the turkey puppet.

Wooden Turkey Pin

Have the kids make their own wooden turkey pins. Purchase plastic or foam rubber name tag pins, wooden circles of two different sizes (one size small enough to serve as a head and the other to serve as a body), Popsicle sticks, and googly eyes. Paint the body and head of the turkey brown, and the Popsicle sticks the colors of turkey feathers. Cut out another small piece of yellow foam in a triangle shape for the beak. Glue all of these pieces to the foam pin in the proper order. You may have to cut the Popsicle sticks in half to fit them on the pin.
