Making a pharaoh's crown out of poster board is fun and easy.
In ancient Egypt, rulers were identified as pharaohs. Pharaohs were known not only as mortal rulers, but also as gods. It is thought that there may have been hundreds of pharaohs in Egypt's history. They would have been exalted over the general populace of Egypt in most, if not all, areas of life -- even in their attire. One aspect of the pharaoh's clothing that would have been recognizable was their head coverings. If you are studying ancient Egyptian culture, an interesting craft to accompany the study would be to make a pharaoh's crown, specifically the white crown of Upper Egypt.
Instructions
1. Take the white poster board and roll it into a cone shape. Hold the ends in place and make sure the bottom of the cone will fit securely on the wearer's head. Adjust accordingly, and then tape the cone together. Cut off the excess with scissors.
2. Cover the cone completely with wax paper, rounding the point on the top of the cone. Tape the wax paper into place.
3. Using the excess poster board cut from the cone, cut a circle about 4 to 5 inches in diameter.
4. Paint the circle gold and allow to dry completely.
5. Glue the gold circle about halfway up the front of the wax paper covered cone. Glue two to three white feathers under the gold circle. Allow it to dry.
