Brighten up your black and white prom decorations with a third color, such as blue.
Create a specific theme for your black and white prom decorations to follow, such as a Hollywood, city nights or celestial theme, if you want your decorations to include more details than simply including black and white. Add a third color as an accent color or to break up the black and white when necessary, such as silver or red.
Table Linens
Use black and white table linens to accentuate your black and white prom theme. White linens may be less expensive to rent, although black linens may blend into the background more. Cover the chairs in the same color as the tablecloths if you want to add a bow or other embellishments in the second color, or alternate between black tablecloths and white chair covers. Alternatively, decorate every other table in black, with the next in white.
Centerpieces
Simple, inexpensive, yet elegant centerpieces are ideal for prom. Set up prom favors as your centerpieces or at each table setting to do double duty. Tie a black bow around a silk white rose or orchid and set it on top of a custom black picture frame with the prom theme, high school name and date engraved on it.
Arrange bouquets of white flowers inside shiny black vases or use black feathers inside large white vases. Combine black and white silk roses in silver vases. Alternatively, fill clear vases with shiny black river rocks and white flowers.
Tall, white pillar candles can sit on black candle holders with black bows tied around them. Fill numerous clear votive candle holders inscribed with the prom details with black and white votives. Sprinkle black and white confetti around them to serve as table decor and favors.
Fill clear vases with shiny, decorative items as the centerpieces. Add flowers, or let the filling serve as decoration enough. Black and white ornaments, faux rhinestones, rocks, glass pebbles, marbles or other small items are ideal.
Walls and Ceiling
Drape material, such as tulle, from the walls and ceiling. Twist black and white fabric together, alternate between the two colors or use one color, such as black, as the primary decoration with the second color twisted along the top. Use small twinkling lights to create a romantic feel and add some light. Twist the lights with black tulle for a different look.
Black and white streamers, balloons and paper lanterns are other options.
Photo Backdrop
Create a backdrop for photos that plays off the black and white theme. Drape black material in the background with white balloons or columns for contrast. Create a black and white balloon arch or weave white silk flowers and twinkling lights around a black arch. Hang silver stars and a white moon from the ceiling to brighten up a black background.
