Homemade Teen Halloween Outfits Without Any Sewing

Simple, but impressive, Halloween costumes can often be made by utilizing the contents of your household's closets.

To assemble a Halloween costume for a teen without sewing and still meeting the teen's "coolness" standards, collect the various pieces of the ensemble that together form a completed costume. Costume pieces can be found in the teen's closet as well as the closets of loved ones, from the teen's little brother to her elderly grandmother. You could also visit thrift and discount stores to help assemble an eye-catching and memorable costume without touching a needle and thread.

Old Hollywood

Search through thrift stores as well as the closets of any older aunts, cousins and even grandmothers for a classic ballgown dress. For a boy's costume, look for an old smoking jacket or blazer. Pair the dress with a feather boa, which could be found in a collection of old dance costumes or even at a novelty store. Add some costume jewelry borrowed from an older relative or younger sister. For a boy's costume, pair the smoking jacket with a pair of slacks and a bowler hat or top hat. Add the finishing touches by adding some bright red lipstick to the wearer of the woman's costume or by parting and slicking back the hair of the wearer of the boy's costume. The old Hollywood costume can be fun, though still modest and age appropriate for the teen.

Wizard of Oz

Many of the lead roles from the classic "Wizard of Oz" film can be recreated without any sewing. For Dorothy, pair a blue dress and pigtails with a pair of old shoes. Glue red glitter or sequins all over the shoes to complete the signature look. For the Tin Man, use double-sided tape to adhere tinfoil to cover the wearer's gray turtleneck and jeans, Mold a hat out of tinfoil and paint his face green to complete the look. Use an old, black graduation gown for the main portion of the Wicked Witch of the West's look. Pair it with a black hat and green face paint. For the Scarecrow, rip gashes in an old pair of jeans and a button-up plaid shirt. Glue straw around the hem of the shirt, the sleeves, in the gashes and the bottom of the pants. Add a straw hat to complete the look.

Mr. and Mrs. Claus

To pose as the iconic Christmas time personas, the main costume ingredients are a plethora of red clothing. For Mrs. Claus, pair a red dress with red shoes. Wear a black belt around the midriff of the dress. Add some white stockings or thigh highs, white gloves and a classic Santa hat. Add some red lipstick and some rosy blush on the cheeks to complete the look. For Sana Claus, pair a red long-sleeved shirt with a pair of red sweatpants or pajama pants. Add some black work boots or sneakers, a Santa hat and white gloves. Wear a black belt around the waist of the costume. Glue balls of white cotton around the hem of the shirt sleeves and the bottom of the shirt. Cut a beard shape out of a paper plate and glue cotton balls to it. Wear it around the face using a rubber band. Add a Santa hat to complete the look.

Era Costumes

Era costumes are typically easy to assemble due to the fact that many styles from the past make fashion comebacks over the years. Many pieces are likely in your teen's closet already. Combine a pair of bell bottoms with a tie dye shirt, which can be made using an old T-shirt if you don't already have one for a '70s era costume. Add some long strands of beads to complete the look. For an '80s costume, a girl can pair leggings with an over-sized sweater in a bright hue. Tease the hair and add a pair of plastic, neon sunglasses to complete the look. For a boy, utilize a pair of hammer pants or a pair of straight-legged, torn jeans with a graphic T-shirt. Add an upside down and backwards visor to complete the look.
