Crafts For Children Which Are On The Stick

Wooden craft sticks are a versatile tool often used in children's art.

Everyday kitchen trash and nature's own materials can be combined to create crafty gifts by even the youngest of children. Purchase wooden crafts sticks or save and clean those usually thrown away after enjoying a frozen juice treat to construct artful masterpieces. Mother Nature provides twigs and branches that can be used in craft construction as well. With a little glue and some paint, children can spend some quality time crafting with a parent or guardian.

Froggy Fishing

Children taking a nature walk through the yard can locate fallen twigs and branches to construct their own fishing pole. Tightly tie a piece of string or yarn to the end of a stick and adhere a magnet to the string's opposite end. In a wide bowl, place numerous cut-out paper frogs with a paper clip attached to each frog's nose. Children can catch the frogs in the bowl with their magnetic fishing pole. Write specific sight words, chores or simple mathematical problems to align the stick craft with for applicable and age-appropriate learning and responsibility.

Butterfly Wand

All you need to make a butterfly wand is a wooden craft stick, an everyday coffee filter and some non-toxic washable markers. Instruct children to color patterns and designs onto a coffee filter and adhere it to the center of a craft stick with a strip of glue. For durability, use a pipe cleaner and firmly twist it around the stick and filter using the remaining ends for butterfly antennae. Children can take their craft outdoors to play in the wind and make their butterfly fly.

Craft Stick Bookmark

Older children can use decorative floral photos to use for craft stick bookmarks.

Parenting magazines often display pictures of characters starring in various children's programming. Kids can leaf through magazines to find applicable photos or draw one of their own and attach it to a piece of cardboard trimmed to match the picture. Adhere the picture to the end of a wooden craft stick for the child to enjoy as a bookmark. The project can double as puppets for a theatrical presentation or as characters to sing children's songs and finger plays. Kids who aren't fans of children's programming can use floral pictures or family photos for their bookmarks.

Snowman Fence

Holiday traditions can include crafting winter decor for the home. A snowman fence is accomplished by adhering various craft supplies to everyday paint stirrers and wide wooden crafts sticks. Paint five paint stirrers, often available free of charge when purchasing paint at a home improvement store, and six wide wooden crafts sticks white. Repeat if necessary and allow to dry completely. Adhere three craft sticks in a horizontal line to the back of the paint stirrers approximately 4 inches from the top of the stirrers and glue three more crafts sticks in the same manner about 3 inches from the bottom. The project should appear as a white picket fence. When the glue is dry, turn the fence over and begin to decorate each paint stirrer's top portion as a snowman; gluing strips of fabric around the skinny part of the stirrer, craft poms on fabric snowman hats or for ear muffs and draw snowman facial features and buttons with permanent markers in various colors.
