Steps To Make Holiday House Adornments

Handmade decorations are easy.

During any of the major holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, decorating the home and being with family are two common ways to spend the days leading up to the event. Making your own holiday decorations not only saves money but allows the entire family to partake in an activity to decorate the home. With a few materials, you can create your own holiday decorations to use for the special day.

Instructions

Thanksgiving---Table Centerpiece

1. Choose a vase to use for your centerpiece.

2. Arrange red, orange, white and yellow flowers in the vase. For an extra touch, incorporate wheat sprouts or thin branches into the arrangement.

3. Surround the base of the vase with cream-colored tea light candles.

4. Add miniature pumpkins or decorative gourds to the table to incorporate the holiday theme with your table centerpiece.

Christmas---Candy Cane Wreath

5. Cut the 24-inch garland in half and wrap around, over and under each wire ring. Cut off any excess and secure both open ends of the garland to the wire ring with a dab of hot glue.

6. Trim the 3-yard ribbon into three equal 1-yard lengths. Tie one end of each of the ribbons to the 12-inch wire ring, making sure to space the ends evenly apart.

7. Tie those ribbons again around the 8-inch wire ring, about halfway up the ribbon length. Leave plenty of ribbon at the top of the 8-inch wire to create a single knot to hang the wreath.

8. Tie the open ends of the three ribbons in a single knot or bow, and hang where desired. Hook each of the candy canes over the wire rings, placing 10 on the bottom ring and 5 on the top ring. The rings will hang in a chandelier effect, with the 8-inch ring atop the 12-inch ring.

Easter---Light Bulb Duck

9. Wipe down the light bulb with a small amount of rubbing alcohol and a terrycloth rag. Allow to dry before painting.

10. Paint the entire bulb (including metal portion) with the yellow enamel paint and allow to dry for approximately one hour.

11. Turn the bulb upside down, so the widest part of the bulb is the duck's lower body.

12. Cut a small triangle out of the orange foam to make a beak. Glue it on the front of the bulb, about 1 inch down from the top.

13. Glue the hat onto the top of the bulb with hot glue, and wrap the small ribbon around the barrel of the hat. Wrap the ribbon so that both open ends are criss-crossed in the back of the hat and hang over the brim.

14. Glue the bead eyes onto the face, slightly above the beak. Glue each of the yellow feathers on each side of the bulb to create the duck's arms.

15. Wrap the second ribbon around the neck of the bulb. This will be a scarf for the duck. Glue three white buttons down the length of the bulb.

16. Cut a heart out of the square orange foam paper. Glue the center of the heart to the bottom of the bulb to create the duck's feet.
