Focal point Ideas Having A Theatrical Theme

Perhaps you are an actor on Broadway or you perform in your town's theater group, or maybe you just have a fondness for all things associated with the theater. No matter what your association with the performing arts, if you're throwing a party and you want to incorporate a theatrical theme, add interest to your tables with theatrically themed centerpieces.

Playbill

Use a Playbill or program as the central element in your centerpiece. Visit a printer and have a reproduction of a Playbill made up that features a picture of you or something personal to the party. Place the Playbills on a book stand in the center of the table. Lay white and red long-stemmed roses on the table around the program. Add more interest by scattering red and white rose petals around the Playbill. Complete the look by adding a few tea lights to the display.

Theater Masks

The comedy/tragedy masks are an unequivocal sign of the theater. Use them in your theatrical centerpieces. Blow up and print out pictures of these masks from clip art. Make them more festive by covering them with glitter in a color that corresponds with the color scheme you have selected for the party. Place the pictures in decorative frames. Use props that may be used in a theater production -- such as feather boas, long gloves, jewelry, hats and spectacles -- and put them around the picture of the theater masks.

Shakespearean Plays

Perhaps one of the most famous playwrights of all time is William Shakespeare. Use his plays as an inspiration for your centerpieces and decorate each table with a different centerpiece. For "A Midsummer Night's Dream"-themed centerpiece, place long wispy branches in a tall decorative vase and dangle crystals from them. For a "Twelfth Night"-themed centerpiece, place a piece of blank sheet music in a frame and attach images of music notes to the frame. A "Romeo and Juliet"-themed centerpiece could incorporate an ornate candelabra surrounded by clipped roses and heart-shaped confetti.

Stars

Create a centerpiece that showcases the stars of a performance for a theatrical party. Take photos of the actors and actresses in a performance -- whether it be a show that you are associated with or a professional cast -- and attach them to pieces of cardboard. Cut the cardboard into star shapes and attach them to barbecue skewers. Use glue to attach glitter to the unadorned side of the star, as well as to make the barbecue skewer more visually appealing. Insert three or four stars into a vase. On a decorative piece of paper, print the words, "The Stars are Out Tonight" and place it in a frame in front of the vase.
