Use American flags for decor at patriotic events.
Create an impressive and attractive centerpiece for your next patriotic-themed celebration. American flags are an appropriate decoration for Fourth of July parties, welcoming a soldier home and Memorial Day events. Small flags are available at most party supply and craft stores. Don't forget the rest of your table. Choose red, white and blue tablecloths and dinnerware when possible to complement the centerpieces.
Instructions
1. Choose a container---such as a metal pail or vase--that is at least 8 inches tall and has a 5-inch diameter opening. Choose a solid color of red, white or blue.
2. Fill the container three-quarters full with clear or white glass floral marbles. Floral marbles are available at craft stores where artificial flowers are sold.
3. Cut an 18-inch length of each of 3 ribbon colors---red, white and blue. Use 1/2-inch-wide fabric ribbon. Lay the ribbon lengths on top of each other.
4. Wrap the ribbon around the center of the vase and tie in a large bow. Trim the ends if necessary to even them up.
5. Use 4-by-6-inch miniature stick flags (see Resources). Poke the sticks into the floral marbles. Arrange the flags so they are equally spaced around the rim of the container.
