The Mighty Eagle only soars on iOS devices.
The PlayStation 3 version of "Angry Birds" does not feature the Mighty Eagle as a character at the time of publication. Only iOS devices -- such as the Apple iPhone -- feature the Mighty Eagle. However, knowing what the Mighty Eagle does, and how to use him, will prepare you for the day that he does become available for the PS3.
The Mighty Eagle
Version 1.5.0 of "Angry Birds" introduced the Mighty Eagle in-game add-on purchase. For 99 cents, you can download the Mighty Eagle to use for an unlimited amount of time. The Mighty Eagle, once summoned, will fly in from the skies above and wreak havoc on the egg stealing pigs below. However, you must purchase a can of sardines to attract the Mighty Eagle. The sardines can be purchased as a download, same as the Mighty Eagle.
Limited Destruction
The Mighty Eagle is best used on levels you are having troubles fighting through, so use him sparingly. Once the Eagle arrives, he will destroy all pigs, allowing you to clear the level instantly. But there's a catch: you can only use the Mighty Eagle once every hour. "Angry Birds" has been designed as such to prevent people from simply using the Mighty Eagle on every level, which in turn would eliminate any sense of challenge.
Total Destruction
If you use the Mighty Eagle to pass a level, you will not earn any stars or points, but you will earn a feather if the Eagle's attack equates to Total Destruction. If you do obtain Total Destruction on a given level, you will be notified. In some cases, the Eagle himself will cause Total Destruction. In other cases, the Eagle must be used in conjunction with other angry birds to earn Total Destruction. After the Eagle and birds have passed a level, a percentage meter will display how much destruction you have caused. If you create 100 percent destruction -- or Total Destruction -- you will earn a feather.
A New Hope
In August of 2011, the Mighty Eagle was released as a download character for "Angry Birds Seasons." Levels for this version are released on a daily basis. Although this doesn't directly apply to the PS3 version of "Angry Birds," it does show that the Mighty Eagle is making his way onto other versions of the game. Gamers can hope that the Mighty Eagle will make his way to the PS3 version of the game soon, instead of being limited to iOS devices only.
